Innovative products can make all the difference in a highly competitive market. Through the Click2Match meetings organised by the HKTDC, I was introduced to some interesting and innovative products by new suppliers.
Benjamin Syring, KW-Commerce Asia Ltd., Germany
Building trust with new suppliers during this lockdown period has been difficult to buyers. The HKTDC’s innovative Click2Match customised business matching platform has made it much easier. It is likely to facilitate my orders worth around USD50,000.
Ognjen Vucic, Linea Media, Montenegro
The HKTDC’s Click2Match platform is a very practical tool that has greatly helped us to find reliable suppliers. Thanks to the HKTDC’s support, our video conference with new suppliers ran smoothly.
Alexander Elati, MEC Medical Equipment, Germany
Thanks to the HKTDC’s assistance in providing such a nice online business matching platform, I have had a fantastic video meeting with a very good supplier who offers me the right products.
Ralf Lohrmann, Mi2 GmbH, Austria
The Click2Match platform worked very well and the rate of potential interest in cooperation was far higher than cold calling inside booths at a physical trade fair or looking for potential leads online. My counterparts were higher up in the hierarchy of decision makers than I would normally meet at a physical trade fair.
Hugh Nind, TELEFUNKEN Licenses GmbH, Germany
The HKTDC’s online exhibition has been very well-organised and provides an innovative way for us to find potential suppliers. Some exhibitors were excellently prepared and exchanged a lot of information with us. We are most happy to participate again next time.

We are a well-established German company that produces kitchenware under our Carl Schmidt Sohn brand. We are highlighting Dresden stainless steel series, Marburg Plus nonstick range and Lubeck antibacterial chopping boards at the Summer Sourcing Weeks | Go ONLINE. Through the Click2Match video meetings, we have talked to 10 buyers from Australia, India, Indonesia, Japan and Taiwan who are mainly distributors or e-tailers. The quality of these buyers is extremely high and has exceeded our expectations. We hope to develop more new business through these potential buyers. Click2Match provides a good platform for us to connect with quality buyers and continue exploring new business opportunities amid the pandemic.

I see a lot of industry players turning into webinars during the global pandemic. Individuals can relisten and replay the presentation whenever they want. I am happy to talk about the global retail industry at one of the webinars held during the HKTDC’s Summer Sourcing Weeks. There are five key trends shaping the global retail industry. Asia is the future and its retail market is expected to grow at CAGR of 5.6% over 2019-2024. Retailers will need to respond to consumers’ permanent shift to e-commerce. They must also bear in mind that with stagnant income, the middle class is more value-oriented than ever. Omni-channel retail is a necessity, so retailers need to blend digital and physical experiences to meet consumer demand. Sustainability and ethical consumption choices are becoming increasingly relevant to consumers. Amid the global pandemic, retailers are advised to allocate resources, shift to ‘wartime’ efforts, set limits on purchases, adopt new operational practices, ensure supply chain flexibility and arrange contactless delivery.

Webinars have become the crucial way of connecting and sharing ideas, unlimited to distance and time differences. I shared with the audience the key lifestyle and interiors trends for Spring/Summer 2021 at one of the webinars held during the HKTDC’s Summer Sourcing Weeks. The key trend we see that will impact design is the idea that the home will have a different meaning for consumers. This season’s overarching theme revolves around the ‘Home Hub’ trend that WGSN saw emerging before the pandemic, where consumers and brands alike are creating an ecosystem within the home that facilitates all facets of consumers’ lifestyles – work, fitness, connected cooking, home farming, self care etc. Coincidentally, the pandemic has accelerated everything about this trend. The home is becoming the place for comfort, escapism, betterment and introspection. Hence, the four trends are Cosmic Escape, Constructed Nature, Slow Revival and Sensory Indulgence.
